# Create a Personal Cobalt API Token

To authenticate to the Cobalt API, you need an access token.

You can create multiple API tokens in the Cobalt UI. If needed, you can [revoke](https://docs.cobalt.io/en-us/articles/revoke-your-personal-cobalt-api-tokens-1QJ0vt4nzg) and regenerate tokens.

1. Navigate to <https://app.cobalt.io/settings/api-tokens>. If needed, sign in to the Cobalt app.
2. Enter a name for your token.
3. Select **Generate New Token**.
4. In the modal that appears, you should see your API token, in the **Secret Token** field.

Save the token. After you close the overlay, you won’t see the full token again. If you lose it, you may have to [revoke](https://docs.cobalt.io/en-us/articles/revoke-your-personal-cobalt-api-tokens-1QJ0vt4nzg) the token and start over.
